Dear Senator/Representative ______:

October 10, 2019 is Children’s Environmental Health Day, and I urge you to protect the important research programs that underpins childhood disease prevention in the U.S.

The 13 Children's Environmental Health & Disease Prevention Research Centers (Children's Centers), located throughout the country and funded by EPA and NIEHS, provide critical research to understand how the environment affects children’s health. This work has led to improved policies that help to reduce health risks and improve the quality of life for children.

The current grant for these Children's Centers expires in July, 2019 and EPA has decided not to renew funding. NIEHS is unable to support these research facilities on its own, which means that many ongoing studies providing crucial data on children’s health will have no clear path forward. Most of the Children's Centers also provide vital outreach and engagement in their communities, which is now threatened.

It is critical that EPA commits funding at the same or increased level for this important research that informs child-protective practices and policies throughout the country and especially in our most vulnerable communities.

Our children’s optimal health and development is critical for the stability and security of our country. I would like to know what actions you are taking to ensure that the Children's Centers can continue to fulfill their missions unhindered.

Sincerely,

Your Name
